We’re delighted to announce that – after so many requests from you, our community – we are relaunching our exceptionally popular venezia leather and making it a permanent addition to our range of grand voyageur journal colours.
Our relaunch of venezia – which we describe as 'dark plum' in tone – joins seven other standard colours, from the understated 'natural', to our eye-catching red, to the timeless black. Bringing venezia back fills a gap that we felt was missing in our line up; a colour that had proven to be extremely popular as a special edition.
How did the venezia colour first come about? Back in the summer of 2022, we celebrated 10 years of paper republic with a team trip to Italy. In addition to that trip, we also released two new special-edition leather colours: firenze and venezia.
During that trip, we spent a day visiting our leather tannery partners in Tuscany. There, we were able to witness firsthand the process of vegetable-tanning – which uses only naturally occurring tannins found in tree bark, along with minerals - and takes about a month to complete.
Our special edition colours were named in honour of the tannery and our trip to Italy. Both colours sold out very quickly. But since then, venezia has become the most requested colour ever. So we have listened to you, and we are making venezia a permanent part of our colour range.
